Torrington Man Wins Fight for Compensation after Accident in Pub
North Devon Injury Lawyer Mike Clarke Goes to Trial and sees the Defendants Back Down.
A rugby fan from Torrington in North Devon has won compensation for injury in a London pub. John Pledger was having a quiet pint at the Barmy Arms, Twickenham, with his family after watching a rugby match. He went to use the loos and slipped on some water. As a result of the accident he suffered tendon damage to his knee.
His personal injury claim was taken to court by specialist accident claim solicitor Mike Clarke, who is based at Slee Blackwell’s office in Bideford.
Commenting about the claim Mike said, “The landlord’s behaviour was quite extraordinary. He attempted to manhandle my client from the pub and refused to call an ambulance even though it was obvious that he was seriously hurt. The pub’s insurers were just as awkward. They refused to accept there had been any spillage on the floor, even when we disclosed photographs that had been taken by a witness within minutes of the accident happening.”
The insurers flatly refused to negotiate, so we had no alternative but to take the accident claim to trial. However, once the hearing at Torquay County Court got underway the landlord and his insurers realised they were in difficulty with the claim. At the eleventh hour they put forward settlement proposals and an award of compensation for the injury and Mr Pledger’s other losses was agreed.
