Compensation for North Devon Man Injured at Work
Personal injury solicitor, Mike Clarke reports on his latest success in securing a Bideford man a 5 figure compensation settlement for injuries suffered in a workplace accident
A Bideford man has secured 5-figure compensation for a serious wrist injury he sustained in August 2009 when he fell from a step ladder whilst carrying out work on a bungalow for Devon company, N J Martin Windows Ltd.
Matthew Colwill was removing tiles, guttering and fascia from the property in Fremington, North Devon, using a 6-step ladder provided by his employer. As he pulled at a roof tile, he lost his balance and fell, breaking his right wrist. At first, the injury seemed straightforward, but continuing pain over the next 18 months prevented him from working and eventually further medical investigation showed he had damaged cartilage as well as delicate bones in the wrist. He had to give up his job as a window fitter and is now pursuing re-training as an operating theatre technician at the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
He has undergone several operations on the wrist, but still has significant problems with continuing pain and reduced strength.
Mr Colwill’s accident claim was handled by specialist personal injury solicitor, Mike Clarke of Slee Blackwell in Bideford, who said, "We have just agreed a very significant amount of compensation for him in final settlement. This will enable David to make a completely fresh start and hopefully put the effects of this freakish and near-fatal accident behind him."
